About KAH Ceramics

Hi! I'm Kim.

My hair is blue and my kiln is purple.

Ive been making studio pottery for the past 11 years in my home studio. When I say it like that it sounds very impressive! My studio is actually my kitchen and most of the time, I'm wearing my dressing gown whilst making my ceramic goodies.

It all started back in 2010 after leaving The University of Cumbria with my degree in Contemporary Applied Art, specialising in ceramics. I bought my first kiln with the left over student loan money I had, and a few bags of clay.

In 2014, I moved to Newcastle to complete my PGSE in Art, Craft and Design before moving to Stoke on Trent in 2015 to complete my NQT. The passion for clay grew as did the machinery, bags of clay and enthusiasm! I moved back to Cumbria in 2017 to fully focus on ceramics and left my role of teaching in 2018.

As the passion grew, my kitchen was converted into a pottery. It was supposed to be temporary but I enjoy working in there, with my rescue dog Pepper by my side and my trusty (now slightly famous) dressing gown on.

In 2019, things got serious when the arrival of the purple beast arrived. My faithful and reliable Northern Kiln and when the pandemic struck, I took the opportunity to fully throw myself into the pottery and my making.

I'm not all about clay though. When I get the chance, you will find both me and Pepper dog (occasionally my husband too) up the fells, bagging Wainwrights. The Cumbrian landscape is my muse and is reflected in my work.

I'm also on the hugest plastic free mission. So if you order from me, there wont be a single shred of plastic used in the packaging. Even the tape is plant based! I try to live an eco friendly life as best I can. There is no planet B guys!

Have the most wonderful day

Kim xx
